General FAQ
How do I book a charter?
You can book your charter by phone, email, contact form, or through our online booking system.

What payment methods are available when booking a charter?
We accept all major payment methods such as cash, credit/debit cards, Zelle, and Venmo.
Are the prices listed per person or per boat?
We only offer private charters. The prices listed on our website are for the whole boat not per person. You can find a list of our prices on our Charters page.
How many passengers are allowed and who can go?
Due to U.S. Coast Guard regulations, our boat is limited to up to 6 passengers. All of our charters are kid friendly and happy to accommodate bachelor and bachelorette parties, corporate events, fishing tournaments, birthday parties, marriage proposals, and memorial services.
Will other groups be on the charter?
Captain Sunshine Charters are private charters, so it will be only your group with your private captain and crew.
What is included in the charter price?
Prices include U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain, crew, fuel, bottled water, assorted soft drinks, snacks, ice, and all USCG required safety equipment. To see a full list of what’s included in your charter, please visit our Charters page.
Should you tip your captain and crew?
Absolutely, they would highly appreciate it! As a reminder, a tip is not included in the charter price. Like any other restaurant or service industry, standard gratuity for a hardworking crew is typically 15-20% of the trip cost.
Do you take a deposit?
We do not take a partial deposit. Payment is due in full for you charter at the time of booking.
What is your cancellation / rescheduling policy?
All cancellations must be made at least 72 hours before your scheduled trip to receive a refund. If the cancellation is less than 72 hours, you will not receive a refund for your trip. You may reschedule your trip one time during the current season and your original payment will be transferred to the new trip. If the captain cancels the trip before the boat leaves the dock (bad weather or mechanical problems), then the trip will be fully refunded if rescheduling is not possible.
Do charters cancel because of rain?
Most charters go out rain or shine. We do not reschedule for rain. If the weather is going to be dangerous or questionable, we will contact you prior to the charter to reschedule or process your refund.
Where do you pick up?
We have two designated pick up locations in both Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach. However, we also offer custom pick up locations at private residences or other acceptable docks of your choice, upon request and approval.

What is the best way to avoid seasickness?
Avoid arriving at the boat hungover. If you have a tendency to get seasick please look into different seasickness medications prior to your charter.
What should we bring on a charter?
For the best comfort, we recommend that you bring a hat, sunglasses, bathing suit, sunscreen, food and beverages of choice, and comfortable shoes with non-marking soles.
Is alcohol allowed on the boat?
Alcohol and beer are allowed on board for passengers over the age of 21. However, the captain has the right to cancel the trip at any time if they feel as if someone has become too intoxicated and a danger to themselves or anyone else on the boat.
What is prohibited on a charter?
Illegal drugs and contraband are not allowed on any of our charters. A charter will be cancelled immediately if either of these are brought on the boat. Cancellations due to drugs contraband will not be refunded.
How far in advance should I book a charter?
The earlier the better. Some parts of the year are busier than others, but we do stay busy year-round. We can make a reservation as little as 24 hours or years in advance.
Do you offer anything else besides fishing?
Yes, we are available to do sunset cruises, sightseeing tours, snorkeling, sandbar excursions, night trips, and more.
Boat FAQ
Is there a bathroom on the boat?
Our boat has a clean, operational, and fully-private bathroom onboard. Take a look at some of the pictures of the boat’s interior on Our Boat page.
Is the boat easy to get on and off?
Our boat is easy to get on and off. If you require special arrangements please notify us ahead of time and we will be happy to help.
Does the boat have the mandatory safety equipment onboard?
Our boat is up to date with the latest U.S. Coast Guard requirements and safety equipment.
Fishing FAQ
Are we guaranteed to catch fish?
We do not guarantee fish but we will do everything within our power to make sure you leave the charter happy!
What is included in a fishing charter?
All fishing charters include fishing licenses, rods and reels, frozen bait, and ice. Live bait is also available for an additional cost. If you would like to use live bait, let us know prior to your charter.
Do I need a saltwater fishing license?
It is not necessary to have your own fishing license. The boat’s fishing license covers all paying customers.
What experience level is necessary?
No experience is needed. Our captains and crews will assist in every aspect of the fishing process.
Can kids go on a fishing charter?
Absolutely! Kids are very welcome to go on a fishing trip with Captain Sunshine Charters. Our crew is fantastic with kids and will teach them to fish. Charters are also a great way for kids to catch their first fish, or take them fishing if you’re not as experienced, and want to make sure they have a good time.
Do I need my own fishing equipment?
You do not need to bring your own fishing gear, but you can if you would like to! All top of the line, tournament grade fishing gear is provided.
What types of fish can I catch on my charter?
The type of fish caught on each charter varies with the fishing season, location, and type of charter. Some of the most common fish caught on our offshore deep sea fishing charters include: tuna, wahoo, mahi mahi, sailfish, cobia, king mackerel. Nearshore fishing charters typical catches include snapper grouper, and jacks. For a full list of the types of fish you can target, please visit our Charters page.
Can we keep the fish we catch?
On almost all of our fishing charters, guests can keep any fish as long as they are within the size and bag regulations.. There are certain species of fish our captains must release per fish conservation laws and guidelines.
Will the captain clean our catch?
After returning back to the dock our crew will happily filet and clean your catch for you to take to a restaurant or to cook yourself.
What is the best length for our fishing charter?
Out of South Florida, we typically offer three different trips which include half day (4 hours), three-quarter day (6 hours) and full day (8 hours). We pick up plenty of fish on every charter, but we typically recommend the shorter hours for entry-level anglers and 6/8 hours for more experienced anglers. We also have custom trips and night charters that vary in length depending on the type of charter desired.
Where will we go on our fishing trip?
Nearshore fishing: You’ll be in the Atlantic Ocean but near the beach. May also be near an inlet. If the conditions are suited for these trips they can lead to some amazing fish.
